Residents in Leamington experienced severe damage from flooding after the downpour on the weekend.
Tim Byrne is the director of watershed for the Essex Region Conservation Authority and said in a CBC article the damage caused by the flooding is the worst recorded in the Leamington area since the 1970s.
The flooding forced some drivers to abandon cars in the roads and caused significant damage to residential houses and local infrastructure.
Larry Greco is a resident in Leamington who was affected by the flooding over the weekend.
In a CTV article, Greco said the waves ranged about 10 to 12 feet in height. He also told CTV that the damage to his house caused approximately $12,000 in damage.
Greco’s house and six others were visibly damaged by the flood.
The water has since subsided and residents continue to fix the damaged areas.
The flood has expedited the erosion of the shoreline near Point Pelee and West Shore Road is still closed due to damage.
