Learning in nature at Windsor-Essex’s forest school

Learning in a forest, instead of a classroom?
Natural Pathways Forest and Nature School provides innovative outdoor experiences for children. Its goal is to provide an area for kids to make a connection with nature.
The concept of a forest school has been gaining popularity in Canada over the last 10 years.
Parents find their children are more well-rounded because of their participation in outdoor play.
“My son really, really, really loved it! I am so happy that he can balance a French immersion education as well as an outdoor English adventure nature school,” said one of many positive comments on Natural Pathways’ Facebook page.
Natural Pathways has different programs for different ages, and offers opportunities for newborns to 18 years old. They also offer school group programs and drop-off programs as well.
“We change with the seasons,” said Jocelyn McNeely. “As the seasons change, the forests change and the kids curiosity changes.” McNeely is an educator with Natural Pathways. Her son also regularly attends programming.
Natural Pathways offers programming at three locations in Essex County, including Holiday Beach, Camp Bryerswood and For the Birds.
“Children are allowed to explore, follow animal tracks and climb trees,” said McNeely. “They do what children usually do.”
