To keep up with society and the new digital age, the Windsor Public Library will be offering digital magazines to everyone with a library card.

The library chain began using the program ZINIO to provide digital services on March 1.

Bonita Seecharan, the public service manager says the wave of the future library is going digital.

The library is trying to keep up with people always on the move and not always able to come into the library to get the information they need.

“With your library card you can access any of the magazines we subscribed to on your phone, tablet or laptop,” said Seecharan.

By cutting down on the number of physical copies it opens up more room in the library for other programs and expansions.

“We can utilize the space we have to provide a space where people can study, where people can network with each other,” said Seecharan.

By going digital the library plans to provide more help to the public especially immigrants and those who speak languages besides English.

Daniel Mungai is in charge of the multiculture section of the library and ordering the magazines in other languages.

He said that they have already ordered a large amount and have some up already on the library’s website.

“The most popular are Chinese and Arabic and we are trying to get some more in those languages,” said Daniel Mungai.

He goes on to say that if there is any magazine that people wanted they could request it in another language.

As time goes on so does the way we receive information.

Modern libraries are proof of an old industry learning new tricks to stay relevant in this world.
