KiA Windsor Essex County support team is going the extra mile for children who are suffering life-threatening illnesses.

Little Hands Kids for a Cause was established in July 2014.

The organization is focused on helping families financially and emotionally and they have 50 children they call “Little Hands heroes.”

The Windsor-Essex organization provides a unique aspect to volunteerism by involving children and youth throughout all activities and fundraisers,

as well as raising awareness about childhood illness.

Each child is presented with a “hero” shirt, not only to signify bravery and courage but to show their entire community, family and friends are battling alongside them.

Shirts are also provided to their immediate family.

“Maiysn was the first Little Hands Hero.

They (Little Hands Kids for a Cause) contacted us as they had heard about Maiysn’s story,” said Laura Spencer, Maiysn’s mother.

Maiysn, died at the age of eight after being diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at Stage 4. “They continue to help us honour our son by holding a toy drive each Christmas in

Maiysn’s honour and the toys are donated to London and Windsor pediatric floors.”

Little Hands Kids For A Cause began as a child-run lemonade stand that expanded into a large, community-led organization.

“One of the main differences between Little Hands and other organizations is that we try to include children or young adults in all aspects of what we do,” said Aimee Omstead, co-founder of Little Hands. “It has restored our faith in humanity and has shown others that every person, regardless of their age has the ability to make a difference in their community.”

Little Hands Kids for a Cause focuses directly on heroes from Windsor and Essex County.

Little Hands sends special shirts to children fighting medical battles all over the world, but the primary focus, with regards to fundraising and donations, is on local families and organizations who help our heroes.
