Local artist showcases work

Some of Windsor’s local musicians are touring across Canada, getting record deals and even being signed to movie albums, while the local art scene is trying to catch up.
Local artists have been showcasing their work in cafes downtown, winning competitions and more recently having their own showcases.
Local artist and musician Anthony Di Fazio has been busy with the release of his band’s new album titled vomit, by booking shows and designing merchandise. However he hasn’t lost his real passion for art.
Di Fazio said he has been enthusiastic about art his whole life.
“I’ve been creating since I can remember, but in Grade 9, that’s when I started to do things with it,” said Di Fazio.
Since the start of high school Di Fazio has entered multiple art shows and competitions and has always left with a prize.
“It really just makes me happy, that’s the real reason I got into art,” said Di Fazio.
He started out by selling smaller pieces for $10. Then, while taking art during high school, he started entering into competitions, such as the peer choice competition.
The peer choice competition is hosted at the Capital Theatre downtown. It is an annual competition in which high school students enter works of art and other students vote for their favourite. Di Fazio won first place as well as selling the prize winning painting for $500.
He has been recognized in the Windsor Star twice and has paintings show cased at The Squirrel Cage, a cafe downtown.
With his best friend, Michael White they form the band Apecassette. White says a lot of their music is inspired by Di Fazio’s art.
“He is a really talented artist,” said White. “Hopefully he studies art in school and makes a career out of it. That is how good he is.”
Di Fazio says to expect a new collection of his art to be released soon.
