Amherstburg’s Gibson gallery is launching its gallery season – and everyone is invited to see the arts and crafts created by local artists, photographers and stitchers on display.

“I love the students,” said Sandra Ellis, a teacher at the gallery. “I love being in the classroom. They give me energy. I love it when a light goes on, in when they’re drawing something difficult in a technical perspective, and they finally get it and they’re excited that they’ve got it.”

Her students reciprocated her sentiments.

“I feel good,” said Emma Flemming, a student in Ellis’ class. “I feel more confident in my penmanship and my watercolor skills because I haven’t really taken a formal water class or watercolor class. So, I think it’s valuable. I just think that what she’s teaching I can apply to a lot of my different pieces that I create.”

Patron Craig Canniff said he was visiting the gallery to see his friend’s artwork.

“We’re just here to admire him,” said Canniff. “I know George has been painting for 40, maybe 50 years and his son also paints and does basically the same style that he does. We’re here to enjoy his artwork and have a good time.”

Art and craft classes for adults and children are taught throughout the year every Saturday from 1 to 4. The non-profit organization is free to the public and entirely run and maintained by a volunteer Board of Directors and Gallery members.
