Local band Cons of Jupiter is on the rise
By Joelle Brassard
Windsor’s local music scene is growing all the time and two young men involved are growing in popularity with new music releases.
Ian Joseph Pattison and Luke Philip Drouillard, who work together under the band name Cons of Jupiter, have been an active part of Windsor’s live music scene.
“We had been in other bands before this and things kept not working out,” said Pattinson. “We decided to start jamming as the two of us and we realized we had a ton of chemistry and writing songs came very naturally to us.”
The duo has been making music together since 2020.
“Cons of Jupiter only really took off a concept during Covid,” said Drouillard. “We had jammed a bit prior, but I feel around 2020 through 2021 is when we started taking it seriously.”
The band describes their music as alternative or punk rock but incorporates many different genres to create their unique sound.
“There’s some 50s and 60s stuff in there, namely doo-wop and a little bit of surf rock,” said Drouillard. We’ve also started working with some Midwest emo sounds and hoping to incorporate some heavy metal in the future.”
The band pulls inspiration for their songs from everywhere.
“There is no one thing that inspires us, we just love music and write based on whatever we are feeling or going through at the time,” said Pattison. “Sometimes we’re sad and other times we just want to have some fun.”
The band has developed a local following that has allowed them the opportunity to play venues around Ontario and even a show in Montreal.
“Some big-name venues we’ve played at have been the Bovine Sex Club and Sneaky Dee’s in Toronto,” said Drouillard.
The pair have managed to grow their social media following to over 500 people in the year and half they’ve been playing live shows.
“Our local following really inspires us to keep going and they make every show that we play in Windsor a great time,” said Pattison.
The band has been planning big things for the near future including recording new music and planning more shows.
“We’ve recently been in the studio working getting some of our songs we’re known for playing live to be recorded,” said Pattison. “We also have a few potential local shows lined up in the coming months.”
They also have a new single titled 7:30 coming out shortly.
“Our new single 7:30 will be released in about a month’s time,” said Drouillard. “It’s one of our favorite songs to play live and definitely one that we’re very proud of. It’s been a hit with regulars and friends at our shows so were hoping for a it to do well when we release it to the public.”
The duo has goals of gaining more notoriety over time, to be able to financially support themselves with their music and to ‘become at least somewhat famous to alternative and punk rock fans throughout the world.’
“The goal is to simply get our music in as many ears as possible and to find people that connect with what we’re doing and the music we make,” said Pattinson.
Support of our local music scene and bands like Cons of Jupiter is an essential part of uplifting the community, according to CJAM radio station manager Walter Petrichyn.
CJAM 99.1 FM is a Windsor radio station that focuses on local and Canadian music.
“Championing local music and taking it very seriously for its own economy is very important.” said Petrichyn.
He described how through radio exposure and shows like “The Windsor Scene”, CJAM supports our local music community and fosters a sense of exposure for artists.
“You could say supporting local is important for any city around the world,” said Petrichyn. “You may think of some musicians or bands in a city like Toronto or Montreal, for a place like Windsor, we don’t have the same population or diverse economy. However, I think the musicians playing here in Windsor reflect the realities of life here which I think that is so important and at CJAM we’re proud to broadcast that on our airways.”
You can find Cons of Jupiter on their Facebook and Instagram social media pages as well as keep an eye out for the upcoming music and shows.
