Local businesses open with fewer restrictions
Local businesses are preparing to open their doors with eased restrictions as per several announcements from Ontario Premier Doug Ford in February.
As of 12:01a.m. on Feb. 17, 2022, restaurants and bars were able to open to full capacity.
Sporting venues, restaurants with dance floors and entertainment venues were still subject to capacity limitations.
Bill Sannotta, manager at La Vern’s Market in downtown Windsor, said that food shortage is his biggest concern, not capacity limits.
“Whenever I go shopping to get produce, I’m going to the wholesalers and all the things that I want aren’t there,” said Sannotta. “They’re blaming the protesters, but the shortage has been here for a while.”
With establishments like La Vern’s trying to work within the Covid-19 restrictions they are hoping business starts to pick up over the coming weeks.
As of March 1, proof of vaccination requirements will be eliminated, but businesses will have the option to keep them in place at their establishments if they choose to.
