Local film Beyond the Deep premieres at WIFF
Windsor residents may be hard pressed to name one movie shot in town, but the Windsor International Film Festival has one gaining a lot of attention.
Beyond the Deep is a science-fiction themed romantic drama involving time travel. The film premiered at WIFF on Monday, Nov. 3 to a sold out audience. The movie is not the only submission to the festival to be shot locally, but it’s the only one that is feature length with a running time of 85 minutes.
This is the second movie by writer/director Kyle Mosonyi to be shown at the festival. His first film, Riot, was shown in 2012 and was also shot locally. The Windsor-born filmmaker has great admiration for the cinematic qualities the city of Windsor possesses.
“I think Windsor’s great for shooting because we have such diverse locations,” said Mosonyi. “We basically shot a whole bunch of different areas and you can get away with a certain feel and look to it.”
The film has been in production for almost 3 years. Shooting took place over 10 months in 2012 and has been in post-production ever since.
Mosonyi is excited about having his second film premiere at the film festival, but he is already planning his next cinematic project.
“It’s in the very early stages, but I want to make a crime/street gang movie,” said Mosonyi. “I’m a huge fan of gangster movies like Goodfellas and I would love to give the genre a try.”
The film’s premiere on Nov. 3, 2014 played to a sold out audience at the Capitol Theater. Tickets are still available for the second showing on Nov. 6, but they are going fast. More information and tickets can be found at windsorfilmfestival.com or the Capitol Theater box-office.
