Local pastor bringing hope for disadvantaged

One Windsor pastor is giving hope to disadvantaged people who need financial, legal, medical and spiritual aid in their lives.

Kevin Rogers, pastor of the New Song Church said he is helping people in the Drouillard Road area by creating an environment which allows everyone to ask for help. The church has been serving people for about 22 years.

Alexix Fluit lives close to the church and always worships on Sunday. She said she is happy to be part of the church community.

“I want to be worshipping with people whom I live with. Coming here has strengthened my faith not only in God but God’s people also,” said Fluit.

Mark Gelinas is one of the directors of the church who lives on the second floor of the building. He said people in the church feel like his family and everybody knows one-another.

“I know more people in this place than when I lived in any other place,” said Gelinas.

The church provides shelter to those who need it most and food for people throughout the week.

“We serve those who have trouble with the law, mental health, poverty, learning disabilities … many situations people have and we look at people as the image of God and our job is to nurture them,” said Rogers. “Life is challenging and we certainly put ourselves close to the people who have certain challenges.”

Rogers said they provide service at Central United Church, located on Ouellette Avenue on Saturday evening.

Rogers also said he spreads the message of God through the gospel music he plays with his band in church on Sunday.
