Folklore in the Core is just one of five Jane’s Walk events happening between Oct. 19 and Oct. 26.

Jane’s Walk events are guided tours that highlight local history and encourage community connection and education. There are at least 300 cities globally who host Jane’s Walk events which typically occur in late April and early May.

Sarah Morris, festival coordinator for Windsor’s Jane’s Walk said October themed tours with a modest $25 ticket price were created as a fundraising event.

“We were looking for something this fall that is different than our springtime festival,” said Morris. “What is the most fall thing we can think of? That’s where we kind of came up with certain ideas like the cemetery tour that we’re doing in Kingsville, and spooky urbanism.”

Folklore in the Core (Oct.19) promises to be a folklore inspired tour in areas of downtown Windsor, while events like Where the Wild Things Go (Oct. 25) look at the local wildlife and how it settles in for the winter ahead.

Scarehouse will continue to offer thrills until Nov. 2 with multiple haunted attractions and even themed dinners available, like dinner in total black and white.

“We’re like ‘how are we going to pull that off?’ And we figured it out,” said Shawn Lippert, co-owner and operator of Scarehouse. “When you go into the room, everybody’s in black and white because it’s a lighting technique. I reached out to Dan Riskin who’s this science and technology expert through CTV… he explained the science behind it.”

Fogolar Furlan is having a Trunk N Treat event for members and friends of members on Oct. 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is open until Oct. 21, and “trunk” participants are asked to bring treats, according to Sonia Giovanatto, the Cultural Director and a member of the board of directors for the Fogolar Furlan club.

“Some people dress up, some people decorate their trunks,” said Giovanatto. “We usually do crafts in addition to trunk and treat… like decorating pumpkins or guess how many candies in the jar.”

With only a few more weeks of October left, there are still plenty of Fall and Halloween events left to experience.

Visit windsorjaneswalk.ca for more information on the tour, times and dates, and to purchase tickets.
