A Windsor glassblowing company welcomed the public to their open house on the weekend.

On Nov.23-24, 2018 people were able learn the details of the modern glassblowing process. The event ran from 9a.m. until 5p.m. at Tsunami Glassworks.

Tsunami Glassworks provides a variety of glass sculptures for everyone. Their products are made with the idea of modern art in daily life. More than 30 different types of modern glass sculptures can be found in the store and on their website.

The store works with a wide range of clients and ships products worldwide. They provide decorative glass for interior design projects and unique objects for everyone. Kris Gene, the production manager and co-founder, said he has been working as a glass blower since he graduated from college.

“After we graduated from Sheridan, Eva worked for a glass blower and did residency at Harbourfront center,” said Gene. “While that was going on I was finishing up schooling at Sheridan and then worked for a glassblower as well.”

Gene said after graduating he started working but also continued to learn. He worked for a glassblowing company in Toronto and later started working at Tsunami Glassworks. The glass blowing company has been around for more than 14 years. Gene said, Tsunami Glassworks originally started on Mercer Street and later moved to a bigger facility on Central Avenue approximately four years ago.

“We basically cater to lot of commercial firms. So most of the stuff we do is commercially driven,” said Gene.

He said they are providing products to lot of commercial firms. They also supply commercial installations to condos, agencies and other places. Also, installations of other design accessories such as the Ice Cube, Soft box, Petal, Wisp, Ichi and Toro.

The Ice Cube series has a unique hammered texture and crisp sharp angles. It comes in different sizes small, medium, large and extra-large. The Soft Box series is intended to show softness in form through the gentle folds in the glass formed by heat. Petal references the soft curve of a flower petal. The etched finish emits a velvety smooth luminescence while the shine shows off its smooth shape.

Tsunami Glassworks will be hosting a glass blowing workshop in December. People can register online to secure their spots and get a hands-on experience in modern glass blowing.
