More flooding problems for Lakeshore
The north winds have brought Lake St. Clair waters onto the streets of Lakeshore and caused flooding, leaving the residents wary.
On Friday, the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) issued a Flood Watch statement regarding strong winds primarily from the north potentially affecting the Lake St. Clair shoreline in Lakeshore. Winds were anticipated to slow down around 8 p.m. which would allow the water to subside.
In the town of Lakeshore’s recent press release, waves were over-topping break walls in some areas.
“It’s a disastrous situation here,” said Tom Bain, mayor of Lakeshore. “We are monitoring and continually making sure that all pumps are working well and to the highest efficiency and getting all of that pumped up cleaned up.”
The Town of Lakeshore has assigned a Flood Task Force Committee to work on the repeated flood problems in the area. They are also looking into increasing the size of the pumping systems and water reservoirs which can hold the water back and release it later in time.
“We are working with the Essex Region Conservation Authority in coming up with solutions,” said Bain.
The city of Lakeshore is also providing free sandbags and sand to residents living on the water. In 2019, Lakeshore gave over 80,000 sandbags to residents.
The town is still adding up and calculating the number of residents affected.
