More Porter Airlines flights between Windsor and Toronto
A local airline is adding an extra round trip between Windsor and Toronto.
Porter Airlines currently has three round trips between Windsor and will be adding a fourth next month.
According to the Porter Airlines press release, the flights are going to allow connections in Toronto for Ottawa, Montreal, northern Ontario, and other destinations.
Robert Deluce, the president and CEO of Porter Airlines said the number of passengers in Windsor has increased.
“Windsor passenger numbers have really improved since we started flying there less than two years ago,” said Deluce.
Deluce also said competition between airlines is the reason fares are more affordable and will lead to more people choosing to fly.
“This is what has made it possible for Porter to add a fourth flight for Windsor,” said Deluce.
Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis said he supports the new addition to Porter Airlines flight schedule.
“We are delighted with this next step in the growth of Windsor International Airport and the continued development of our relationship with Porter Airlines,” said Francis.
Francis also said this type of change is good for Windsor.
“An extra flight connecting our city to downtown Toronto and beyond will help our local companies compete for business, create jobs and promote Windsor,” said Francis.
Phil Roberts, the director of operations for the Windsor International Airport said since the flying schedule is more open, there should be an increase in revenue for the airport.
“The airport makes its money on parking revenue and people who buy a coffee,” said Roberts.
Lower flight prices have increased passengers and with more bodies in the building, Roberts said it is benefitting the airport financially.
“We are all about passenger numbers,” said Roberts.
The new expanded schedule is supposed to be implemented on April 15, 2013 and can be accessed at https://www.flyporter.com/About/News-Release-Details?id=ddd53d8c-1413-425f-ad03-2dd8be1d41dc&culture=en-CA.
