MPP speaks at Windsor Club

Creating good-paying jobs and strengthening local health care are two of the topics Liberal MPP Teresa Piruzza covered in her speech at the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce Friday.

Piruzza said she is optimistic about this region’s economy. A “WE Export” initiative is being put into place, said Piruzza. She said this initiative works by reaching out to larger companies to help smaller businesses in Windsor.

“We are identifying businesses here in our region that are looking to grow their market internationally,” said Piruzza. “We work at looking for those companies to match then bringing them to Windsor.”

She also said that by making these connections it will increase productivity of small businesses and create more jobs in Windsor.

“Our plan is to engage our business community and those in the region,” said Matt Marchand, president and CEO of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Piruzza said the initiative will focus on agri-food sector businesses. She said the government has been attracting investment and passing legislation to increase demand for local food and by building modern infrastructure to get products to market. She also said she would like to see a new economic strategy for the Windsor to London corridor, focused on the agri-food and advanced manufacturing sectors.

She also said she supports government investment in the auto sector including improvements to Chrysler’s Windsor Assembly Plant. Delivering the “right care at the right time and at the right place” is one of Piruzza’s objectives, as well as reducing wait times and improving access to care.

“I know when I wake up each and every day, I have a job to do,” said Piruzza. “That job is to deliver results for Windsor-Essex families.”
