Music is essential to political campaign.

The song that is chosen can say a lot about a campaigner’s image. The song played when entering a campaign/rally is partially what the public will remember them for. The music is just one of many things that is part of the image the candidates portray, according to Laura Wright who published the article for CBC.

If a song is catchy the listener will be more inclined to remember the candidate and potentially vote for them, although the song choice can also have a major effect on how the public may view them. Music itself travels to all parts of the brain and remains in our memory, so a song with positive vibes can help a campaigner go a long way.

Steve Erwin, a former Liberal party member, gives his views on songs for candidate’s rallies.

“You want a song that has energy in it, maybe it’s a classic guitar riff or any introduction into a song. It gets the crowd excited,” said Erwin.

Erwin also mentions how effective songs can be at rallies.

“Politicians want that, they want that energy at an event with all their supporters, the biggest reason why they do it. It can be very effective it’s an energetic song, the challenge is making sure you pick the right song, “said Erwin.

Bikram Wahid, a local Windsor artist, has his views on what makes a good song.

“If your head is bopping from start to finish you got a good song, something that invokes emotion, makes you feel some way, is a good song,” said Wahid.

The federal election will take place on October 21, all party leaders are heading to different parts of the country for their campaigns. The campaigners have their songs ready to be played at the rallies.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau is set to release the song they will use, whereas the Conservatives have used a song called Get Ahead composed by Bryan Adams and written by Canadian hit-maker Jim Vallance.
