An extensive addition to the Gino and Liz Marcus Recreation Complex has been completed by TCI Titan and the City of Windsor.

The $1.1 million accessible and family change room expansion opened Dec. 15. The addition adds five changing stalls, two bathrooms and a shower, which include accessible features such as push-button doors and hold-bars.

Gino and Liz Marcus was the only pool in the city without an accessible change room. The upgrade was requested in the City of Windsor enhanced capital budget two years ago. A grant was received from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. The grant was part of a Canada 150 project and includes other renovations to the complex.

The City of Windsor receives accessibility advisement from the Windsor Accessibility Advisory Committee. The committee has 12 members made up of able-and-disabled citizens and one member of city council.

Under the WAAC recommendation, the City went “above and beyond” the Facility Accessibility Design Standards in this expansion, as well as during the build of the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.
