New additions to the code of conduct at the library
Windsor Public Library has modified its code of conduct after a recent shift into a new downtown building.
The library will no longer allow more than three personal belongings for each patron at the library. Vaping and use of communication devices that might disrupt others are also banned.
These rules are in addition to the existing code of conduct that also do not allow sleeping in the building or offensive odours.
Some drowsy readers, regulars in the library, aren’t happy about the changes.
“Right now, they let us sleep a little bit,” said Gilles Belisle, a regular patron at the library who likes to occasionally close his eyes and rest his head.
Kitty Pope, the CEO of the library said they have two main rules.
“One is you can’t do anything illegal in the library, and the second is don’t bother the other guy,” said Pope.
The library deals with “a lot” of odour issues.
“There was a guy who defecated in the library [more than] three times in the last week,” said Pope.
Pope is also hopeful that the new changes will be able to attract more people and students with campuses around the library.
