New lease on life for “Little White Church”

Amherstburg’s Little White Church is destined to become a bed-and-breakfast.
The change for the building at the end of Howard Avenue follows a unanimous vote by the town’s council last Monday – and Amherstburg Councillor Donald McArther said he is very excited about what it means for the community.
“This will have six rooms so people can now come to Amherstburg and stay overnight,” McArther said, adding he hopes the new accommodations in the historic building will attract tourists who will visit other attractions, resulting in a spin-off effect for the local economy.
“People can stay longer (and) instead of spending two hours, can spend two days which bring more money to the town,” McArther said.
The structure which has been designated a historical site under the Ontario Heritage Act was built in 1892 and served as Methodist church.
