New police chief for Windsor selected
Jason Bellaire is the new Chief of Windsor Police.
“The selection of Chief Jason Bellaire comes after an extensive nation-wide search and we are pleased to welcome him as the Chief of the Windsor Police Service,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens in a press release on the announcement.
Bellaire has 27 years of service with Windsor Police and worked as Acting Chief of Police for the last eight months. Before that, he was the Deputy Chief of Police for Operations over the last two years and oversaw operational strategies for the service.
His role as chief will last for five years, taking effect on December 1.
“As Chief, I pledge to embrace a community-focused, collaborative and data-driven strategy to policing,” Bellaire said. “And this will include modernizing our structure, our service delivery and our appearance. The diversity of our community is a large part of what makes this area so attractive and vibrant.”
Bellaire pledged the service “will become a better organization as we continue to emphasize the philosophy and practice that prioritizes equality, diversity and inclusivity at the Windsor Police Service.”
He also said he looks forward to helping make Windsor a safer place.
