New Syrian community community opens in Windsor
The Syrian newcomer community in Windsor has launched the Syrian Community Center of Windsor.
They will provide lots of programs and services for Syrian members who live in Windsor and Essex, to help them settle into their new home.
On March 18, the community held an event to welcome Syrian members and promote their new organization.
“Fifty founding members, most of which were new Syrian immigrants, funded the launching of the institution and its first year of operation,” said Ahmed Cali Khalifa, one student who took part in this event and posted on Facebook.
He mentioned that back to 2015, Canadians were still worried about whether Syrian refugees would put a long-term burden on the Canadian taxpayer, but now the Syrian newcomers have the capability to set up their own non-profit organization.
“Similar institutions like this one have been spawning across Ontario and the nation,” Khalifa added.
