The University of Windsor is making it easier for students to succeed.

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has just launched an app for its students. The faculty includes 13 academic departments and is the university’s largest.

The app was designed by professor Phebe Lam and student Tony Vo with grant money from the university’s strategic priority fund.

The FAHSS app houses three important features.

The Open Office Hour video series addresses common students’ concerns via short videos.

Fourth-year political science student Marissa Bumanlag recently used the app’s Live Chat feature to communicate with Lam directly.

“You’re able to ask different questions related to resources on campus, so as a fourth-year student, I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to see what else there is,” said Bumanlag.

According to feedback received by project coordinator Vo, the Humans of FAHSS feature has been the most well-received. It mimics the popular Facebook page Humans of New York.

“(It) spotlights the amazing and inspiring students throughout our faculty. Each story documents a student’s journey in hopes of sharing their struggles, successes and advice to their fellow peers,” said Vo.

Next semester, two new features will be added to the app.

FAHSSome Talks will look like TED-Talk style videos, hosted by students themselves.

#ReflectOnFirstSemester is an online peer mentoring resource for first-year students. They can ask questions and address concerns to senior students in their program.

The FAHSS app is available now on the Apple and Google Play stores.
