Canada’s Food Guide released a long-awaited updated version on January 22. The last version of the guide was released in 2007.
The new Canada’s Food Guide recommends eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods and food that contains protein. It says that Canadians should choose foods that have plant-based protein more often. The guide also says to avoid highly processed food and make water the drink of choice.
This version of Canada’s Food Guide removes milk and alternatives and meat and alternatives as food groups. The new food groups in the guide are fruit and vegetables, whole grains and protein food. The guide has also removed specific portions and serving sizes for foods. The guide encourages what food to eat on a regular basis and which food should be limited.
