No school for some Monday if CUPE strikes
CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) announced Wednesday that they will begin a full strike on Monday if an agreement has not been reached.
CUPE and the Ontario School Board Council of Unions gave the required five-day notice that all staff will go on strike starting Monday.
School employees under the CUPE umbrella have been on work-to-rule job action for the last week.
Catholic Schools in Windsor-Essex will close their doors if CUPE members go on strike, according to the board. There are more than 400 CUPE support staff including educational assistants, early childhood educators, child and youth workers, psychotherapists and other para-professionals in the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board.
The Catholic board has suggested that parents and guardians should look at alternative arrangements for childcare.
Talks resumed Friday, but if no progress is made, the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board County will be closed on Monday. Greater Essex County District Schools will remain open.
