One of Canada’s flag bearers is University of Windsor alumnae
University of Windsor alumnae Tessa Virtue and her partner Scott Moir won Olympic gold once before, in the 2010 Olympics.
Now, they are looking to win gold again, as they marched under Canada’s flag in the Pyeongchang opening ceremonies.
Prime Minister Trudeau cheered on the two ice dancers on twitter.
“Congratulations to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir – our flag bearers for the opening ceremonies of the Pyeongchang Olympics!” Trudeau tweeted in January.
“This is undoubtedly the pinnacle of our career,” Virtue said a news conference from inside the House of Commons in Ottawa.
“The honour of carrying the Canadian flag into the opening ceremony at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang brings with it a sense of duty, privilege and above all, great pride,” said Virtue.
Moir added he sees the opportunity to carry the Canadian flag as the biggest honour of his career.
