Ontario supporting communities to improve transit

The municipalities of Leamington and Chatham-Kent are getting funds from province to improve transit.

According to a news release, Leamington is getting $606,040 and Chatham-Kent will receive $500,000 from the province.

The money will be paid out over five years.

“We are working with municipalities to support programs that will help Ontarians stay connected to their communities, so they can access employment and social programs, attend appointments, visit friends and family, and maintain an independent and active lifestyle,” Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek said in the news release.

Leamington is planning to introduce a new bus line from Leamington to St. Clair College in Windsor.

The service is expected to run from Monday to Friday via Kingsville — from early morning through to the evening.

There’s no word on when the new bus line will be in service.
