Open Streets doubles as campaign time
Federal Liberal candidate Sandra Pupatello brought attention to her campaign during Open Streets last Sunday by setting up a booth in the Ouellette and University Ave. area.
Pupatello’s appearance caught the attention of many participating in Open Streets.
“A lot of people are walking by, waiting until I arrive. I think that’s good because, really, being in the private sector you’re not in the public light, and I’ve been doing my own thing in the private sector for the past 8 years. Now I need people to remember what I used to do when I was a member of provincial parliament,” said Pupatello, who is the Liberal Party candidate in Windsor-West.
On a day full of open-air activities, Pupatello mentioned the many issues surrounding Windsor.
“There are lots of issues for Windsor that I think you need a strong voice. Issues downtown, for example, of how all levels of government and the private sector can come together to see what we can do for downtown revitalization. The homeless issue that’s growing downtown, there’s no one, golden solution unless everybody comes together on this. I’m hoping I can provide that voice and that access to actually getting support for a city like ours.”
Green Party Candidate Quinn Hunt also had a booth at Open Streets, garnering his own attention from pedestrians and cyclists. There were no fixed appearances from PPC candidate Darryl Burrell, NDP candidate Brian Masse, or Conservative candidate Henry Lau, but Masse was seen strolling the route with an orange-shirted crowd.
