Joanne DeSantis is a Pre-Apprentice Administrator at the school of skilled trades.

St. Clair College provides an opportunity for free tuition and paid work placements in its skilled trades program.

The provincial government is investing $20.8 million in pre-apprenticeship training all over Ontario in 2020.

Joanne DeSantis has been the pre-apprentice administrator at the school of skilled trades since October 2020.

Seventeen weeks is provincially approved levelone apprenticeship curriculum and then a paid work placement for 120 hours,” said DeSantis.

“Once these components are finished, then these students would receive their levelone certification in that trade.”

The opportunity is designed specially to ensure the presence of women in skilled trades to have a better future in the tool industry and electrical apprenticeships.

This program is reserved for Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

DeSantis said tuition, textbooks and safety equipment are free, so it is a program to encourage people to apply and become involved with secure employment in the trades.
