Peace in the Streets 2019
Wayne State University Peace and Conflict Studies, along with the Rotary Clubs of Detroit, Ann Arbor and Windsor, organized the annual Peace in the Streets, a Peace Building Conference on Oct. 25-26, 2019. The first day’s events addressed the topics of gun violence, human trafficking and modern slavery, neighbourhood solutions for peace and others. Samantha Fuentes, a survivor of the 2018 Parkland, Fla. school mass shooting was the keynote speaker.
The University of Windsor was the venue for the second day of the conference. Some of the topics addressed were human rights, domestic and gender violence and indigenous rights. Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri, an activist film maker and Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, health and education activist were keynote speakers.
