It is freezing for a reason and plungers are taking the opportunity to jump into cold water for a good cause.

On Feb. 28, St. Clair College and the Windsor Police Service partnered with Windsor-Essex to host its annual Polar Plunge for special Olympics Ontario.

The winter fundraising event gives individuals the opportunity to raise money and create awareness for special Olympics athletes.

In other to participate in the plunge, plungers are required to make a minimum payment of $50 registration fee for the general public and $25 for staff or students.

This year’s fundraising event had 259 plungers registered making it the highest registered plungers recorded for Windsor-Essex since it has started.

They were able to raise $76,140 and have raised over $231,640 since 2015.
