Police blotter Feb. 28
By Sean Previl
Windsor Police Service is asking for assistance in identifying the locations of fake U.S. dollar bills.
WPS was called to a gas station in the 1800 block of Tecumseh Road East Feb. 27 after a clerk reported a female attempted to use a counterfeit U.S. $100 bill.
The clerk gave a detailed description of the woman and informed WPS another counterfeit bill had been used at another gas station in the 2900 block of Howard Avenue.
WPS reports other businesses were calling with similar complaints.
Officers located a vehicle related to the incident, a 2001 Pontiac Aztek, on Betts Avenue.
Police pursued the car with emergency equipment activated for approximately one kilometre after the car would not stop for police.
The car eventually hit a fence in the 1700 block of Northway Avenue. A man left the car and fled the scene. An 18-year-old woman, the woman identified by the clerk and surveillance tapes also exited and was arrested without resistance.
Two other occupants of the car, a 16-year-old man and 21-year-old woman, were also arrested. The 22-year-old driver was eventually arrested in a rear yard in the 1600 block of California Avenue.
All of the people arrested are from Toronto except for the 18-year-old woman who is from Windsor.
Police said it’s anticipated there may be other victims in this incident of fraud.
WPS are asking anyone who may have received a suspicious $100 U.S. bill or who has information about the incident to call police at (519)-255-6700 ext. 4330 or Crime Stoppers at (519)-258-TIPS.
