A local man has been arrested for possession of a firearm.

Joshua Way was taken into custody Feb. 6 by Windsor Police Service in the 4200 block of Casgrain Road.

Way, who was under investigation for possession of an illegal firearm, was arrested by officers the afternoon of Feb. 6. WPS then searched his property in the 1000 block of Lake Laguna Court at approximately 10:10 p.m. where they found a semi-automatic machine pistol.

Way has been charged with possession of a regulated firearm, possession of a firearm with altered serial number, possession of a prohibited firearm, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

In a 24-hour period spanning Jan. 6-7, WPS:

• Answered 264 calls to emergency 911 phone lines
• Responded to 63 calls to 911 requiring police assistance
• Handled 221 calls for service, dispatched or officer-initiated
• Issued 48 tickets for provincial offences
• Arrested and lodged 18 prisoners
