Police blotter March 6
Windsor Police Service is warning the public about a synthetic marijuana product discovered to be illegal despite original claims.
The WPS DIGS unit conducted an investigation in January into the product, named IZMS, and sent a sample to Health Canada. The results of the tests have identified cannabanoids, an illegal substance, found in the synthetic compound.
Police Chief Al Frederick has informed stores of the now-illegal product and requests the public’s assistance in notifying WPS of any stores still selling the product or people who had purchased the items.
In a media release, police cautioned anyone who is found in possession of the product or stores still selling the merchandise could face prosecution under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
If any citizens witness stores in their area selling IZMS they are asked to contact WPS at (519)-255-6700.
In a 24-hour period spanning March 5-6, the Windsor Police Service:
▪ Answered 299 calls to emergency 911 phone lines
▪ Responded to 69 calls to 911 requiring police assistance
▪ Handled 261 calls for service
▪ Issued 6 tickets for provincial offences
▪ Arrested and lodged 11 prisoners
