Police blotter March 7
by Sean Previl
A stolen painting has been returned to its owner and the man involved in the robbery is in police custody.
The piece of art was stolen from a consignment shop in the 1400 block of Ottawa Street March 4.
The owner of the store said he noticed a missing four-foot by 2.5-foot painting in the stairwell of his business.
The man was seen on surveillance camera to be 6-0 tall, had a slender build and was wearing an Oakland A’s hat. The video was released to local media outlets in hopes of identifying the man.
Police received information about the suspect’s identity March 6 and attempted to contact him.
The suspect eventually spoke with police and officers attended his residence to find him outside with the painting in hand.
A 41-year-old resident has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen goods. He has been released with the promise to attend a later court date.
