Windsor Police want parents to take extra caution this weekend as little ghouls and goblins take to the city’s streets in search of treats.
“We want them to remind children to remain with a parent or a trusted adult,” said Windsor Police Sergeant Andy Drouillard.
“They’re walking down the street, not to talk to strangers or go to houses that don’t have their lights on.”
Drouillard said kids should be careful to walk, not run and to take extra caution crossing the street.
“We recommend that they carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing and pray clothing so that they’re seen when they’re walking around the street,” he said.
Local parents like Laurussia Smith, a parent of two, said the advice is tried and true.
“I will suggest never sending children out alone,” Smith said. “Younger children should be with a trusted adult. Ensure older children take friends and stay together.”
Smith agreed with Drouillard that kids should walk on sidewalks and cross corners using traffic signals and/or crosswalks.
“Hopefully, we will have a happy Halloween and safe one for everybody.” she said.
