Police warn about rental scam

The Windsor Police Service is asking residents to be vigilant about yet another scam active in the community.

This kind of scam is called rental scam, and the police have received several complaints about it.

Rental scam is when the offender poses as a landlord or representative for a property they don’t have any connection to. The offender will often advertise online or respond to others searching for rentals, according to a police report.

The report said the offenders may also say they are out of the country or will pressure customers to provide banking information “immediately.”

The police report said, “if it sounds sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
