The Windsor International Film Festival is becoming an ever-increasing important part of the region’s economic mix, according to a local professor.

Professor Min Bae of the University of Windsor said the meaning of WIFF and its role in the Canadian film industry is changing.

“The Canadian film industry also became another major player due to American production (is) coming back after the pandemic,” said Bae. “I’m hoping Windsor also takes some production role so we can actually have another industry right now.”

Bae said Windsor is already well-known for automotive manufacturing and plays a key role in the importing and exporting of goods to the United States.

“Maybe we can be all of the branches of the filmmaking industry,” he suggested, explaining film plays an informing role when it comes to culture, and has the potential to be a huge industry affecting tourism income.
