Recall issued for contaminated milk powder
Health Canada has issued repeated recall notices for baby milk powder due to suspected Cronobacter contamination. The recall includes two baby formulas from Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand.
People are advised to stop using the milk powder immediately.
The recalled milk powder is Costco’s Kirkland brand of non-GMO baby milk powder.
The two barcode batches of 1.36 kg baby milk powder are respectively 0 96619 26926 6 and 0 96619 23600 8.
Food contaminated with Cronobacter may not look or smell spoiled, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The bacteria is not usually associated with disease, but in rare cases can cause serious or fatal infections, including blood, central nervous system or intestinal infections, and blood poisoning, especially in newborns.
According to the Ministry of Health, there have been no reported cases of infection.
