Regional spelling bee will give champion scholarship
By Ryan Percy
On Feb. 23 the Chrysler Theatre will become a hive of activity as the area spelling bee takes centre stage.
The WFCU Credit Union Scripps Regional Spelling Bee is offering free admission to spectators from the public and will have 28 contestants from Grade 4 to Grade 8 across 14 Windsor-Essex schools competing. The contestants earned their place during earlier competitions at their own schools.
The champion will receive a WFCU Credit Union Education Scholarship and a free trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Jim Crichton will host the event and judges include key staff members of AM800, St. Clair College, Postmedia and WFCU. The role of pronouncer. who will present the words and their origins, will be filled by Craig Pearson.
