Grief is the only word that comes to mind with the tragic passing of the beloved actor James Earl Jones. On Sept. 9, the Academy Award nominee passed away at the age of 93.

Even if it is too early for them to disclose any information of his passing, according to his agent, Barry McPherson, the household name died in his home surrounded by his family.

Born in 1931, on Jan. 17, in the town of Arkabutla, Mississippi, the actor graduated from the  University of Michigan with a Bachelor of the Arts in 1955. He had a son in 1982 with the late Cecilia Hart.

The actor spent his years in smaller roles but eventually his long career took off at the age of 33 in the dark comedy Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learn to Stop Worrying and Love Bomb. Then in 1977 he voiced one of the most iconic characters in human history as Darth Vader in the Star Wars series. Saying the line used throughout all forms of media, “I am your father.”

The two-time Emmy winner most known for his deep voice later went on to voice the tear-jerking role of King Mufasa in the Lion King. He reprised his role in many of the television shows, games and sequels. Something he also had done for some other of his characters such as Darth Vader.

The actor who always showed a smile may be gone but he has left a legacy of work behind.

Many of his past co-stars, like his on-screen son, Mark Hamil, expressed their condolences on their socials, saying nothing but kindness for the kind man as he takes his final rest. Just like the words he memorialized in the Lion King, “Remember who you are.” The memory of James Earl Jones will not be forgotten. He will be remembered. We will remember who you were, James Earl Jones.
