Windsor’s Adventure Bay promises to make a splash once the province gives managers the go ahead to reopen the family waterpark.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit Windsor hard causing numerous businesses to close their doors last spring. Most of these businesses have reopened and some of them have not.

Those that have not yet reopened will need to have rules in place such as mandatory masks, enhanced cleaning and social distancing. One business that has yet to reopen is the City of Windsor’s Adventure Bay Family Water ParkThe water park was not permitted to reopen during Stage Three of Ontario’s reopening plan so the people who were out of work during Stages One and Two continued to remain unemployedThey could not reopen because water parks are not part of Ontario’s reopening framework and will have to wait for instructions from the province’s Ministry of Health.

Because of the shutdown there was no money coming in from the waterpark but there was a plan in place to reopen other municipal sites. Jen Knights is the manager of Windsor’s International Aquatic Training Centre and Adventure Bay. She said they will reopen after the coronavirus is gone.

We will gradually re-introduce other programming such as camps and the reopening of splash pads and will continue to use that document as we move forward,” said Knights. Once thtime comes when Adventure Bay can resume, there will be significant changes, but our goal will be to provide a safe, enjoyable experience. We do not have a timeline at this time but will keep our guests up to date as we move through the pandemic.”

Adventure Bay will follow provincial requirements to keep their lifeguards, staff and patrons safe.

Cameron Garro is a lifeguard who lost his job at Adventure Bay due to the shutdown of the waterpark.

I am so excited to go back to Adventure Bay I haven’t been since the shutdown in March. Hopefully the water park will open soon.”

Once they have a reopening timeline, Adventure Bay officials will confirm the services that will be available
