Restrictions at Canada-United States Border May Be Lifted Soon
During his press conference Wednesday, Donald Trump inferred that he was prepared to lift travel restrictions along the border due to COVID-19 soon although the feeling from the Canadian side may not be mutual.
Canada is “doing well” to control the spread of the virus, Trump said during his conference at the White House.
The American president also talked about Canada’s success during the press conference and urged his desire to see the American economy roar back to life as soon as possible.
This ban of non-essential travel across the borders has been going on for about one month now and does not affect the flow of trade nor the health care workers who live and work on different sides of the border. This ban is set to expire next week but is expected to be continued for some time unless President Trump gets his way.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made it clear to Canada that the efforts to stop this virus from spreading should continue for several more weeks. Meaning the opening of the border to non-essential travel should seem very unlikely anytime soon.
