Members of the local Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community and Windsor community leaders have launched the second annual Run for Rocky at the St. Clair College Mediaplex.
MPP Teresa Piruzza, Rocky’s parents Rob and Nancy Campana and representatives from Windsor Police Services and Windsor Pride were among those in attendance. The run is going into its second year and is going to raise money for the local LGBT community. The money has been used to support the LGBT community bookstore, scholarships, gay- straight alliances and  other initiatives in the community.

“GSA’s have helped and save lives, no dollar value can be put on that,” said Nancy Campana.

Jen Pomerleau and Sarah Taylor were on hand to start the fundraising off by presenting a $8,000 cheque to the run on behalf of the Bridal Ball. Nancy Campana said it was great start to the beginning of launch week.

Piruzza provincial minister for Children’s and Youth Services spoke of the need for this type of fundraising and organizations.  She said people like the Campanas and stories of other similarsituations have inspired her to work to make a difference.

“Rocky was an advocate for social justice” said Piruzza. “ We need to improve child and youth mental health”

The run will be held April 13 at 1 p.m. at Dieppe Gardens on the Windsor waterfront. The pre-party is at 11 a.m. and the after party will be held at St. Clair Centre for the Arts.
