Rychel wins OHL, CHL player of the week
Windsor Spitfires forward Kerby Rychel has been named the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League’s player of the week.
Rychel was the highlight of a poor weekend for the Spits scoring 10 points in their three games.
“It’s nice to get recognized but at the end of the day we didn’t really have a good weekend as a team,” said Rychel.
Rychel’s play has been noticeably better of late since being put on the same line with Alex Khokhlachev, who returned from Russia, and Alex Aleardi, who was acquired from Plymouth.
“I think I’ve been playing a lot better now, since after Christmas, I’ve started to score more goals and get more points,” said Rychel. “I think our line is doing a pretty good job scoring goals, we have pretty good chemistry.”
Windsor has three games coming up this weekend, two of which are against the Saginaw Spirit who hold the eighth spot in the OHL’s Western Conference. Windsor is currently seven points back of the Spirit.
“We’ve got to play good (defence), get in on the forecheck,” said Rychel. “If we do the little things points will come from that.”
