Saints’ baseball team shoots for sixth consecutive championship
The St. Clair Saints men’s baseball team is poised to win its sixth Ontario College Athletic Association championship in as many years.
The team finished off a strong 2018 regular season Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of the Fanshawe Falcons in Bert Lacasse Park.
Outfielder Brendan Renaud of Amherstburg went three for four with three RBIs in the first game to help the Saints to a 9-6 victory.
St. Clair took the second game in a 10-0 blowout thanks in part to the performance of starting pitcher Taylor Pappin, who pitched six shutout innings allowing only two hits and throwing seven strikeouts.
Wednesday’s victories put the Saints on a three-game win streak heading into the championship tournament Friday in Durham. The Saints will square off against the Durham Lords to kick off the tournament.
