New Coach
The St. Clair Saints have hired Paul Boots Sr. to coach the school’s cross-country team.
The Windsorite is a former OFSAA track and field champion. In 1986, he competed in the Canadian Track and Field Championship.
Boots led the St. Anne Saints to three consecutive championships. He then led the St. Joseph Lasers team to four consecutive WECSSAA championships.
Mason MacDonald Male and Female Athlete of the Year
Female Winner: Ashley Unrau
Unura, a fourth year dental hygiene graduate, won the top athlete honours. Unaru won the OCAA gold medal twice and led the team to a CCAA silver medal in 2013. She earned six medals in her four years.
Male Winner: Jason Hernandez
Hernandez was voted a first team OCAA volleyball all-star in 2014 and 2015. Hernandez was named the 2015 OCAA player of the year and led the Saints to the playoffs in 2014 for the first time since 2008.
Al Hoffman ‘Athlete of the Year’ for Outstanding Achievement Award
Female Award Winner: Shannon Kennedy
Kennedy won the OCAA basketball scoring, 3-point shooting percentage and makes leader took home the honours. In 2015, Kennedy won the OCAA Player of the Year, was selected as a CCAA All-Canadian and was a West Region 1st Team All-Star.
Male Award Winner: Eric Cunningham
Cunningham led the Saints to its second consecutive OCAA Championship Gold Medal for baseball while posting a .458 batting average. He was also named the 2015 OCAA Player of The Year.
Other winners from the 48th annual awards night included softball coach Doug Wiseman, soccer coach Steve Vagnini and volleyball coach Rob Lynch.
