London rocker Sarah Smith played an intimate concert at the Dominion House Nov. 15.

Smith, who usually plays in a rock band called  The Joys, played an acoustic set without her full band.  She is doing these shows to promote her first solo album Stronger Now.

“This is the first full year of being a solo artist,” said Smith.  “I’ve been playing with my band The Joys for over a decade.  The Joys decided to take a break over a year ago, so I decided to go solo.”

The set was enjoyed by over 50 patrons of the bar.  The Joys have played in Windsor before, but this was the first time Smith played solo.

“I have played Windsor at least five or six times in the past, and it is always a treat,” said Smith.

Many people like Dana D’Andrea were excited to hear Smith’s new sound.

“I have been a fan of The Joys for a long time, and it’s a nice change of pace,” said D’Andrea. “I will be picking up a CD tonight for sure.”

The Dominion House, which has been around for over 50 years, has recently had an ownership change.   Chris Mickle,  one of the new owners, said he has been trying to get more bands playing in the city.

“I just wanted to support the local music scene in Windsor,” said Mickle. “I know there’s a good following, it’s a business decision as well. It’s a good following, there’s a decent following for live music, so were trying to cater to both. Our own personal needs and the business decision.”
