Sarnia police are investigating a report of gunfire from the weekend.

Around 9 a.m. Friday, officers responded to calls of a suspicious male who was carrying a firearm. After investigation, the suspect was identified as 25-year-old Brandon Lee Williams, who was charged with a number of offences.

According to the police, the suspect was first seen walking on the train tracks near Imperial Oil. When police arrived, the suspect held the officer at gunpoint and then fled.

Police chased the suspect, who opened fire on someone with a lawn mower and a passing car. Police eventually located the suspect and arrested him without further incident.

The weapon was identified as a sawed-off rifle. It still had ammunition when found, but had jammed. The suspect remains in custody and police say there is currently no danger to the public.
