Scare season is back in Windsor
Get your best zombie costumes and your bravery, because the annual zombie walk and ScareHouse are back in town.
With Halloween coming up soon, Windsor residents are starting to get back into the spooky spirit. Every year, Windsor locals hold a zombie walk, to help raise awareness about the Downtown Mission and the Windsor Youth Centre as well as collect donations for them. Anyone of any age can attend the fun-filled walk.
Micheal Reeve, is one of the organizers for the walk. He and his zombie character ‘Zombie Pirate Captain Hindgrinder’ said that the zombie walk has become a tradition for the city and its residents.
“This all started with Jakub Witalec, he brought the zombie walk to Windsor,” Reeve said. “Then things went off to the wayside and I, Captain Hindgrinder (Reeve), decided to take it up for a good cause, for the downtown mission.”
The annual walk starts outside the ScareHouse on 1441 Mcdougall Street, along Windsor Ave. and through part of Jackson Park. Once back at the starting point awards are given out to participants for Best Zombie, Best Survivor (individual or team), Best Zombie Couple and Cutest Lil’ Zombie.
George Des Rosiers (Zombie name: Dead Eye Wade), WZW (Windsor Zombie Walk) Event Committee Organizer and friend of Reeve’s, says that he looks forward to the zombie walk every year.
“My favourite part about this event, is that I love seeing all the ‘dead’ coming for one cause of helping the needy,” said Des Rosiers.
Reeves added on to Des Rosiers point, telling people how they can help the cause. “We collect canned goods, dry goods and physical donations for them,” Reeves said. “Just because we have no brains, doesn’t mean we have no hearts. You can say we’re the giving dead.”
Along with the zombie walk, anyone looking to test their bravery can also try the Windsor ScareHouse. The ScareHouse is a fun and easy way to embrace the Halloween spirit, and most costumers agree that it is worth the money and the scare.
One user wrote “Great scares by a great group of people. Grew from nothing to a yearly tradition. Must visit this place for some fun times!”
Another wrote “Amazing Night out! My staff and I were super pleased with the level of horror and recommend a trip to experience the full package deal! The actors were spot on, the effects on point, and staff wearing full PPE…Great Job everyone thanks for the enjoyable evening. See ya next year.”
Although the zombie walk is over now, it will come back next year. Until then tickets for the ScareHouse are available on their website from now until October 31.
