By Miranda Monahan
55,000 education workers from 63 school boards, province wide embarked on a work-to-rule this morning.
This legal job action comes after two days of contract negotiations broke down. 568 permanent and occasional staff with the local catholic board are affected. The Windsor-Essex public school board has not yet confirmed their numbers.
Catholic School Board staff are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees. Their local branch is 1358.
In a letter posted to the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board’s website, director of education, Terry Lyons said “CUPE staff during this time may not be completing additional duties beyond their normal responsibilities or hours of work.”
Affected support staff includes early childhood educators, clerical staff and custodians.
Negotiations are set to resume on Tuesday and continue into Wednesday.
